When I first moved to London to go to school in Hampstead, we (my Mum and I) lived in 33 Lyndhurst Gardens. I used to sneak into the church to play the organ on the corner of the hill, it had an amazing VOX HUMANA stop, with really wide vibrato... it's AIR Studios now!
Was it 84 Grafton Road? Got my doubts. Was that while I was at Inter-Action?
So many memories of Hampstead and Belsize Park, don't really know where to begin. You know I have only been to London a few times in the last 15 years, mainly 'going through' to fly out to NZ or for an evening to go to a concert, latest one was Hari Prasad Chaurasia, the bansuri player. The last time was a few weeks ago when Liz and I came down to the Museum Of London to do a recky for a schooltrip she was doing. Went up St Pauls Dome, then over Millennium Bridge for the first time.
It feels like my home town, and I'm not at home. Most odd being a stranger at home, but that's what London is like. I enjoyed the Peter Ackroyd Biography of London, he put it something like, 'you don't feel like you're a Londoner until you stop questioning whether you are'.
